I live in York, although I also spend a lot of time in Scotland, Wiltshire and London. I write non-fiction, too, and project edit illustrated books and histories. Since 2014, however, I have mostly been writing historical fiction/time slips as Pamela Hartshorne, sagas as Pamela Bell and I now have a fourth writing name for the upcoming Before the Crown as Flora Harding. We had great fun plotting these books together! My first, A Sweeter Prejudice, was published in 1991 and my last, Mr (Not Quite) Perfect, in 2014.īest Made Plans (originally The Baronet's Wedding Engagement) was the second in the Royal Wedding Invitations series published by Tule in 2017 - and a chance to write with three other of my favourite romance authors, Liz Fielding, Sophie Weston and Anne McAllister. on the disposal of rubbish in the Elizabethan city (which is honestly more interesting than it sounds), and I ended up writing 60 books for Harlequin Mills & Boon. I first stumbled into writing as a way of funding a Ph.D. My early career, if you can call it that, was a haphazard one that included stints as foreign newsdesk secretary in London, cook on an Australian outback cattle station, TEFL teacher in Jakarta and interpreter on expedition in Cameroon - all places that featured as settings in some of my earliest romances.
